Transplant Type: Double Lung

Rosita Perez-Shack is fighting for her life. In 2015, she got sick with what she thought was just a chest cold and cough. After months of tests, she was diagnosed with limited scleroderma, an autoimmune disease. Doctors say a double-lung transplant is critical to her survival.

During such a difficult time, Rosita is thankful for the love and support of her husband, Ken, and their family and friends. Rosita looks forward to receiving a transplant that will allow her to breathe freely and be active again. She used to enjoy walking, swimming, and spending time at camp, but her health prevents her from doing those things now. 

Because her immune system is weak, Rosita gets sick easily, and it prevents her from being able to spend as much time with her young grandchildren as she would like. Rosita wants nothing more than to be able to breathe on her own and be the active grandmother she longs to be. But right now, she needs your help.The average double-lung transplant costs more than $1 million. And that’s only the beginning. 

Even with health insurance, Rosita faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself. Rosita had to stop working due to her declining health, further adding to her financial stress.
