What if you were living on borrowed time? 

Darrin Falcon is fighting for his life.  In 2017, he went to his primary care physician for a routine checkup.  His lab results came back alarmingly abnormal.  This began a lengthy process of tests and doctor visits that ended with Darrin being diagnosed with an inherited liver condition that had never been detected before. His condition has continued to worsen, and now doctors say a liver transplant is critical to his survival. 

While this has been a very difficult time for Darrin, his wife, Ashley, their two children, family, and friends, it has also brought them closer together, strengthened their trust in each other, and given them perspective on what matters most in life. Before his health began to decline, Darrin enjoyed hunting, fishing, annual trips with his fraternity brothers, crawfish boils, and taking trips to the beach with his family, but these days, his activities are quite limited. Darrin looks forward to the transplant that will allow him to just feel good again and live his life with as few limitations as possible. More than anything, he wants the opportunity to spend many more years making memories with his loved ones and to watch his children grow into the people they are meant to be, but right now, he needs your help.

Unfortunately, Darrin’ hope for a new life comes at a very high price.

The average liver transplant costs approximately $878,000. And that is only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. 

Darrin is working with two transplant centers, and one is more than 137 miles from his home. Darrin incurs substantial expenses each time he visits for evaluations and doctors’ appointments. Depending on where he receives his transplant, Darrin and Ashley may need to stay near the hospital, during recovery, adding to the financial strain.
